About Meta ads reports

Meta ads means Facebook ads and Instagram ads, which share one Ads Manager and one report. Enter this period's numbers beside the last period's, and Matcha writes a report that ties the spend to the results.

What the finished report looks like

Wick & Willow Candle Co.

Meta ads, October 2026

In short

  • Wick & Willow Candle Co. wants more candle sales from its ads, and purchases rose to .
  • Each purchase cost , down from , and return on ad spend rose to from .
  • That came with a budget increase, from to .
  • Link clicks2,610+41.1%
  • Results91+33.8%
  • Amount spent2,900+20.8%

What changed

Amount spent rose from to . Link clicks rose to , and click-through rate went from to , up points. Cost per click fell from to .

Results, which here are purchases, went from to . Cost per result fell from to , and return on ad spend rose from to , so each spent now brings back in sales. You told us a gift set ad went live on the 10th, so that is the change to read these results against. Why click-through rate rose is not confirmed. We will check whether it came from the new ad or the older ones.

Why it matters

The extra in spend produced more purchases, and cost per purchase fell, so the extra money worked. That is the sentence to bring to the next budget conversation.

Next month

Split results by ad to see whether the gift set ad accounts for the gain. Hold spend at for one more month before raising it, so next month's comparison stays clean.

What goes in a Meta ads report, Facebook ads included

A Facebook ads report and an Instagram ads report pull from the same place, so this one template covers both. Seven rows tell the story in the order a client asks: amount spent, link clicks, click-through rate, cost per click, results, cost per result and return on ad spend.

Results are whatever the campaign was set up to get, such as purchases, leads or messages. Use the same result you optimize for in Ads Manager, so the report matches what the client sees if they log in.

Return on ad spend, ROAS for short, is only for campaigns that report sales. Leave it blank for a lead generation campaign and the report won't mention it.

Spend, cost per click and return, in order

A client wants to know three things: what was spent, what it got, and whether it was worth it. Start the report there. Spend sets the scale. Results say what it bought. Cost per result and return say whether the price was fair.

Cost per click and cost per result are lower-is-better, and the template knows. A fall from 35.29 to 31.87 per result is good news, and the report treats it as progress.

Watch for spend rising. If spend went up by a fifth and results went up by a third, the extra money worked, and that is the sentence the client wants. If results had stayed flat, the same rise in spend would be a warning. Matcha reads the two numbers together.

When results move and nobody can say why

Meta results swing, and the reasons live in places the numbers don't show: a new creative, a changed audience, a budget edit, a seasonal week. Ads Manager can show what changed. The report can only say what you tell it.

So Matcha doesn't guess. If your notes mention the change, the report uses it. If they don't, the biggest moves are marked as not confirmed, each with one thing to check, like whether the budget or the audience changed in that window.

Clients notice an honest report. A line that says "not confirmed, and here's what we'll check" tells them you are watching. A confident reason that turns out to be wrong costs you more than the gap would have.

Questions

Is this free?
Yes, with no account needed. A fair use limit applies each day. Pro is $49 a month, and early access is open on the home page.
Is this for Facebook ads too?
Yes. Facebook ads and Instagram ads are both Meta ads, and Ads Manager reports them together. If you split placements, run one report per placement or use the combined totals, and say which in the notes.
Where do I find these numbers in Ads Manager?
Open the Campaigns view with the date range set to the report period, then add the columns Amount spent, Link clicks, CTR (link click-through rate), CPC (cost per link click), Results, Cost per result and Purchase ROAS. You can also screenshot the table and add up to five screenshots.
What currency should I use?
Whichever the account uses, entered as plain numbers. Matcha leaves the currency sign off, so type 2900 and not $2,900. Keep every money row in the same currency.
What if a campaign has no sales?
Leave Return on ad spend blank. For a lead generation campaign, Results holds the leads and Cost per result shows what each one cost.
What happens to my client's numbers?
When Claude writes the report, it reads them and your notes. A CSV is read in your browser, and screenshots are read once and dropped. We keep the report, which quotes the figures it explains, and drop the numbers themselves. Turn on 'Show the numbers table on the link' in Share to show them as a table on the shared link. A nickname works in place of the client's real name.

Your numbers are the only thing missing.
